anyone know of a trustworthy specialist who will carry out a steering rack change using a supplied recon rack ? I am relucatant to pay out over 500 pounds for a new one from volvo main dealer and would rather use a reputable exchange rack but problem is finding a decent garage or mechanic who will be able to fit it ? I wil travel to SW london, surrey, kent, middlesex, bucks etc..

any help much appreciated

Give John at JCF Car Clinic in Kingston-upon-Thames a ring, he runs the tightest garage I've ever been too and his knowledge is vast. I've been using his services for over six years, my boss has been using his services for well over 20 and we take our works vehicles there too - he runs one of the most respected garages in Surrey as his page on the Good Garage Scheme (http://www.goodgaragescheme.co.uk/feedback/index.php?id=1305) will attest to. However he gets busy, VERY busy, but it's worth calling him.

Speak to John or Warren on 020 8541 4466.

Tell him Rob from Docusave recommended him to you and you'll get star treatment. :)

I know tht £500 IS A LOAD OF DOSH, but having just had to replace similar, took advice and was told that reconditioned ones dont last. Volvo redo in factory to original spec and last 100,000 miles. After going to all the effort of garaging car etc might be worth thinking about?

What are other views?

I got one from Salvo and got my local garage to fit it. It doesn't need a specialist, just a competant spanner wielder.

Hi guy's

Big fan what was the total cost for your rack with fitting. could do it myself have the tools but don't have the space.

Also does £400 with fitting to replace the pnp switch have rev light issue sound dear I know the part is volvo only.

I can second RT Mechanics as they replaced mine not long ago with a totally new one, for about £400 less all-in than i was quoted by a main dealer.
