Can non turbo petrol cars get re-maped/tuned very well or not?

I know its much better for turbo'd cars but the car I looked at was a 4.2 v8 pushing 350hp, so I was wondering if I ever decided to push for more power what would be the way to go?

Cheers,

Mac.

Hi mac,

Normally Aspirated engines don't tuned up as well mainly because there tuned quite highly to start off with. I checked the VT website and they suggest that a 4.2 V8 from an A8 (for example) could be tuned from 310bhp to 325bhp and 410NM to 450NM.

I think the tinkering involved would be a remap of some sorts to adjust fuelling etc.

I don't know much about the Audi engines to be honest (and I am presuming you mean Audi...) just thinking logically.

You often get the boy racers saying my 2.0 GSI is chipped, so what.... its not gonna be that much quicker anyway!!! ;) My thoughts are, leave it as it is.... :D

its runnin 350 now so the website suggests an easy 365 from 340.

I just meant that if its 340 std and the cars maybe runnin at 350, then maybe get 375! :)

How did you get 10hp over std, does it have an exhaust? If you go over to RS246.com (and stay there you deserter lol) they seem to get good results from remapping that engine with an exhaust and cats around 380hp is mentioned, thats alot response from mapping than most NA engines.
Audi must have tuned it safe!Thats a big power hike from a NA car though not sure i really belive it.

It has a miltek exhaust on, so not sure. Some people have said that they run 344 std anyway.

It might have airfilter and exhaust upgrade?

VT tuned my old Audi S6 4.2 V8. Power was up from 340 to a claimed 365 BHP and you could definately tell the difference....not to the same extent as remapping say a T5, but it just made it alot nicer to drive and pull a bit stronger.

Definately worth it especially in conjunction to a nice rumbly Milltek exhaust!:B_steerin
