So... being as Im sorta bored (as horrible as that sounds) with the T5R.. I finally decided to start up on a project thats been sitting in my side yard for a while.

As some of you may have noticed there is a "262" listed on our website that has been sitting around neglected. The original intention was a stripped, track ready T6 motivated car. Great on paper, completely illegal under California smog restrictions. So the car has sat around for the last year mostly stripped for the last year. We decided to ditch the T6 motor and instead use a T5 motor and all of Motronic 4.3. By doing this, we can have the motor legalized under CARB regulations concerning motor swap cars. The T6's managament is much more complicated than T5 (94-95) thus ruling it out.

New project outline:
Were going to build the motor more or less identical to the motor in our Project T5R car. It'll go to the CARB with the stock turbo setup for getting it legalized for smog. Then an S60R manifold and a GT35R. Like always it will be showcasing the pinacle of devolpment and products we sell. Stay tuned!

Here is the intial drawings

and with out further ado, here is the car:

the pictures are a bit out of date, the car has been stripped more since then. Should have it completely stripped in the next week or two.

started up again on the newly retermed "project 252".

Started stripping down the T5 short block I have. Here are a few pictures of motor mount conversions and the 960 pan.

how much it needs to be shortened. Actually works out perfectly.

once again everything lines up

how much overhang there is

T5 vs 960 oil pickup. Pretty straight forward once again.

part2

Now, it has to be chopped to bring the sump towards the front of the motor because of this:

is the breather that goes down into the sump, its mate is here
http://www.pbase.com/dkauer744/image/68616707.jpg
in the block. No real big deal either though.

Heres an intresting T5 tidbit
http://www.pbase.com/dkauer744/image/68616738.jpg
the water jacket only goes down 83mm from the deck

and giving support this far down the cylinder
http://www.pbase.com/dkauer744/image/68616743.jpg
kind of intresting

OK, 960 motor mounts on a T5. Do able.

DS. The bosses are already there, just 1 nees to be tapped. AC compressor doesn't look like it'd clear, but Im not planning on running it anyways. The breather box also is somewhat in the way, but I think I can clearance the top of the backet and make it work. Option B would be to use the 850 mount seen here just under the starter.
http://www.pbase.com/dkauer744/image/68616759.jpg

Its WAY back there though. 850's have a mount that attach right on the front of the motor, could weld a bar between frame rails and use that to support the front of the motor. Honestly, the 960 mount should be fine.

PS mount:

2 bosses are there but untapped, no big deal at all. Hell, they are already "pilot drilled" just a matter of drilling it for the right size. Now, this mount is HUGE but shouldn't have any clearance issues considering how high the turbo actually sits

The 960 water lines will work, but the heater one will have to be shorted 91mm, 5 minutes with a tig welder and that'll be done. Over all, looks pretty straight forward.

Started on the other part of the project right now.

I want to build a stand the car can sit on sans suspension and still have almost full access under the car. Decided on the "top" version with a couple of bolt in spines to connect them when moving the car.

The front one will attach to the body where the rear of the control arm bracket mounts to, the rears will attach at the trailing arm mount.

Gary and I went out and picked up a bunch of tubing and casters.

only had time to cut the 4 legs that have the casters attached to them and drill 1.

So all and all, off to a decent start. :-D

thats the 3071R in my T5R. Im sorry, I didn't realize (this happened a couple times), the "Assembled" motor is the one that is already in my T5R.

I probably wont have this motor assembled for a year.

I am using a 35R on a customers 850 though so I'll get a chance to see how I like it before I buy my own lol ;-)

Heres the "blog" for the various project cars I've had http://rkforum.boardsxp.com/index.php?c=3
