I have been reading about OBD2 software for your laptop so you can diagnos fault codes and reset engine lights/service lights. I found a company called AutoTap that do one for $199. Anyone use this sort of thing and if so are they any good, how much, where can you get them from?

Excellent thank you very much. Does it read all codes. I understand some of the code readers only read certain codes?

Does anyone use a laptop version?

It does all codes in generic format, IE you look up the P00016 code in the kit supplied. I used to run an OBDII- USB lead and some free software off the net to reset them, but its too bulky, easier to just plug in a handheld that you can keep in your glovebox.

The model i put a link to is about £95 delivered, however if you have a look on flea bay you may get one cheaper, I won mine for £52.00 INC P&P ;)

From your experience does it work on 850s?

Thank you very much you have been very helpful. I will have a quick look to see if I can find a bargain £77.50 delivered is fairly good though, are all the plugs the same. Do I need to get one specifically for a Volvo?

One more thing will it clear my 'electric system fault' light or is it just the check engine light?

Not sure on the electrical system, but defo the engine light, I'll have a look at the manual tomorrow :)

850's are OBDI so no it will not work :(

I have an 850 reader/clearer, they are simple to make (if you have a basic knowledge of electronics :)

I have one of those black box type readers that are in his shop

Bought it from the same place but direct from their website and not through fleabay

Well impressed with it reads all codes and clears them plus i have some additional free obd11 software that allows me to check most things on the car you can even do live acceleration tests 0 - 60 times and such whilst its plugged in

Cheers
