N00bie wants to know about buying 850T5 (or even a saab aero!!)

Hi Volvo Peeps,

Im looking at buying either a volvo 850 T5 or a saab 9000 aero. Now I know out of the box they are very similar, with both weights around the 1450kg mark and 220 odd bhp. But what will sway me in the end are the tuning options.

Ive noticed from a few posts on here and on other forums that the T5 seems quite easy to get to 300bhp.

Ive seen a chip for 280hp, 304 and 310 posted about and I think I would be going for whichever delivers the most power without having to upgrade things like the intercooler and turbo etc.

Which of the chips delivers the most power for least mods, and what mods do you have to do with these chips?

I also have a 200sx s14 which when you buy chips for it, you have to buy a big front mount cooler, increase boost with a valve and buy a straight through stainless exhaust system just to hit 290hp. Do you have to buy all this things for the volvo to get them up to 304 or 310? Also what power can you expect with the extra mods on top of the chip?

What sort of quarter mile times can the volvos get with 300bhp ?

Mid 14s? What trap speeds too?

Saab's are nicer inside than the 850's, a lot more modern looking, i think Abbott Racing are the people for saab performance.

I too looked at Saab's before i bought the 850 for the simple reason that there were only a couple of 850's worth buying at the time and no Saabs.

I aint get rid of my s14! I only got it a few months ago!! Just about to tune that baby to stage 3 with a jez chip and other gubbins - had an s13 before but it was trashed in salford :(

Looking at the 850 or saab for a comfy car that i can drive to work in :D

Im still torn between the 2 cars, there are more of the 850's to choose from and so far here are my pros n cons.

850:
Is easier to tune with chip to 300+
more of them to choose from

Cons:
limited to 350hp on standard internals?
I only like the saloon coz the estate reminds me of police.

Saab 9000:
rarer
nicer inside
more gizmos
handling?
Can be tuned to over 400 or even 500 on standard internals

Cons:
Harder to find
dont respond from chip as well without other mods such as exhaust etc backing up
