Hi all,
I'm going to be buying a V70 T5 in the next couple of weeks. As a result I no longer have a need for my beloved ex police 850 T5 S Saloon.
The car is a 1995 M reg and has covered a total of 155,500 miles. Obviously she's white. She has front electric windows and electric mirrors.
She still has the alternating headlight flashers fitted although I have disconnected this. The wiring and relay can be supplied if necessary (the switch is still in the dash).
The seats are from a 1994 854 GLT and the rear seat includes the child booster seat in the rear centre armrest. I fitted these seats as they were less worn and more comfortable than the ones in it. The seats are heated AND they work.
The only holes in the dash are on the side of the centre console where someone has fitted (and subsequently removed) and mobile phone cradle.
The car has no service history (difficult to obtain when it's ex-police) although the guy I bought it from changed many things prior to me buying it in August. It has had two oil and filter changes since then.
The radiator was replaced last year as the oil cooler failed. The coolant was obviously renewed at this time too.
She is taxed to the end of June and has MoT until sometime in June too.
Having covered over 150,000 miles the suspension is obviously not what it used to be. It still does the job but I was going to replace a few bits (the shocks being the most obvious) over the next few months. However, that was before I decided to get a V70.
The bodywork is obviously not perfect. There are small knocks here and there but overall the bodywork will keep going for years to come. The only areas requiring attention is a small spot of rust showing on one of the front wings, by the plastic rubbing strip. There is also a small amount of surface rust on each of the rear wheel arches but it should be noted that this really is just surface corrosion where the edge of the arch has been scuffed.
She is currently fitted with a motorised flip down monitor linked to an X-Box under the front passenger seat. The X-Box obviously plays games but also has the DVD playback kit so the kids can watch movies on long journeys. The X-Box is powered by a power inverter plugged into the cigarette lighter. The sound can be played through the radio or can be listened to through infra red headphones (the monitor has infra red sound output).
She is also fitted with a Blaupunkt DX-R52 SatNav head unit (copy of 2003/2004 SatNav disk will also be supplied) and a Nokia Bluetooth carkit. The car kit can be used with Bluetooth phones but is also compatible with all Nokia's that have the pop port fitting at the bottom (any modern Nokia basically).
I was going to remove the SatNav, Monitor, X-Box and car kit but will leave them in for the right offer.
So, there it is. If there's anything I've missed or if you have any questions please ask. If you want to come and see the car please let me know. I'll post some photo's over the next few days.
I hate it when people don't stick a price on and just ask for offers but that's exactly what I'm going to do. Any offers with or without the SatNav, Monitor, X-Box and phone kit will be considered. I'd rather it went to someone who is enthusiastic about Volvo's but if I don't get any interest on here or on the VOC forums then she'll be going on eBay in the not too distant future.

Andy

C'mon folks.
One or two of you must know someone who wants a bargain T5.
Seriously, all offers considered.
I will be sticking her on eBay in the not too distant future. Reckon she'll fetch over a grand. Well, I'd certainly hope she fetches over a grand anyway. If anyone gets this for a grand or even a little more then they are getting one serious bargain.
I had considered stripping her for parts (purely because I reckon it could bring in well more than what she'll sell for) but I just don't think I could bring myself to destroy a perfectly good car. There's a potential fortune to be made in stripping her though what with lights, ECU's, interiors etc etc.

Hello Sir,
Would you consider selling the headlight relay and wiring seperately?

Certainly would Matt.
£20 inc postage and it's yours. I'll have to hook it up though and draw a little wiring diagram for you so that you know how to wire it in. When I removed it I crimped some connectors onto the ends of the wires so it was apparent what goes where so it should be fairly easy for me to re-connect in order to draw a diagram.
I'll have to remove the switch from the dash too and find a blanking plate but that won't be a problem.
It's got the rear alternating flashers too but as they were already disconnected (they're there, just not connected to a switch) so I never bothered removing them. I haven't got a clue if they even work so I won't offer those to you.
The only reason I removed the front flashers is for fear of the temptation of using them and getting done for impersonating a copper!

Thanks for your reply Andy,
£20 is perfect?
I assume that with the flasher kit wired in, the headlamps still work as normal too?
- probably a daft question, but just want to make sure.
I'm intrigued as to which lights the rear flashers work?
How much for these aswell?
Probably easiest to list as buy it now on eBay and email me the link?
I assume your id is the same as on here?
Let me know what you think and i'll pm you my email address and eBay id.
Cheers,
MAtt.

Front headlamp flashers do just that, flash the high beam normally. However, they are normally wired so that if you have your lights on they will not flash. Rear alternating units are wired to the rear fogs normally.
A word of caution...if you are stoppped by the police and the officer is clued up and spots that you have them fitted you are likely to get either a fixed penalty notice, a VDRS (Vehicle Defect Notification Scheme) ticket or reported for the offence and could mean court, a fine and points. The legal stance on it is that it is an offence for them to be fitted, whether working or not, so you don't have to be caught using them. If you are caught using them then the offences are more serious.
Hope that helps (sorry if not!!)
cheers
Eddie

No problem Murphy.
Alternatively make an offer if you wish.
One thing, while the suspension will be fine for everyday driving you will need to upgrade it if you're after pushing her round a track.
As I say, it does the job but would not provide the handling required for track use.

Dear Andy,
Until Saturday, I would have been more than happy to purchase the flasher kit from you. However, whilst driving through town on Saturday, to drop my g/friend off at a pub - at around 7pm (radio turned off and no neons lit), I was stopped by the Police.
The officer informed me that I had a tail light out. On examinination, the left hand bulb in the nearside tail light (ie one of two) had gone. He did not issue a ticket, but insisted I replace it asap. I asked if my driving was an issue, he confirmed that his reason for stopping was the light only. However, he did ask if I had been drinking.
Thinking that was all, I was surprised when he then continued to inspect the rest of the car.
He checked - tyres, suspension, engine bay, coolant level, horn and lights (again), aswell as asking for Driv Liscence, MOT and Insurance Cert (fortunately they were in the glove box as tax is due this week (he also reminded me that it was due)).
Probably just routine procedure - there is often a heavy Police presence in town now a days. Upon returning home, I replaced the bulb
Unfortunately, in order to pick my g/friend up, I had to take the same route.
As I went round a roundabout, a patrol car came from another junction and followed me to the club.Whilst stopping to let my g/friend into the car, the patrol stopped too and approached the car. I got out too and the officer said that he was glad to see that I had replaced the bulb and bid me a good night.
I'm sure this is both routine and also a one in a hundred chance, but I'd rather not take the risk of installing the relay.
I am very sorry if I have messed you around at all Andy, I assure you it is not my intention to do so and am now simply being cautious.
Good luck with the auction - hope you get your 'anticipated price' as the car very well deserves it!
Kind regards,
Matt.

How much do you want for the car ? Bare in mind me making an offer may offend you as i want a very cheap car for track days. I would prefer you to get good money for it, than me kick you in the stones, when i can do that to a dealer, or at auction, or someone i don't know ;).

Hi Matt,
No, that's no problem at all. I don't for one minute think you're messing me about.
The reason I disconnected it myself is because of the potential of being caught. Not being caught with installed mind, I doubt that could be classed as an offence. However, the temptation to use it would be far too great and I just know that if it was installed I would always be tempted to flash someone in front holding up the fast lane, only to find out that they are the cops.
So no, don't worry, I don't think you're messing me about. It's no problem at all.

Murphy, no offer would offend. I may say no, but I wouldn't be offended.
I'm pretty confident that the car will fetch well over a grand on eBay. Possibly nearer £1,500 if ones that have sold recently are anything to go by (an estate of almost 200,000 miles sold for £2k the other day - mines a saloon so will obviously get less).
However, I would much prefer to sell to someone off here who will appreciate her and I would accept £1,000 without the audio / video kit (which I'll be sticking in my new car if it doesn't sell with the car) for a quick sale to enable me to get into my new V70 sooner (I'd get it now but that would mean having FOUR cars outside the house which would be just a little excessive.
Having said that, it could go for less than a grand on eBay (although at this stage I don't see that being likely) so if you held out there is the chance that you could get a real bargain. However, once it reaches £1,000 on eBay I'm obviously not going to accept a lower offer as I'll wait it out 'til the end.
If you'd like to come over and have a look then let me know.

Thanks Andy,
I appreciate your understanding.
I know that I too would be tempted to use them, which indeed would be very stupid.
Have a good day,
Matt.

Very well indeed!
I never expected her to raise so much in the first couple of days. Hopefully she'll continue to rise at the same rate until the end of auction! Ha, wishful thinking.
Bidding will slow down now I guess and will only creep slowly upwards from here.

Car is now sold to a lucky chap in Birmingham who responded to the Autotrader Ad.
I was surprised at the response to the ad really. Within half an hour of it going live I'd had a call from a guy in Birmingham and a guy in Liverpool. Both were interested but were haggling over price before even seeing the car. I told them to go away and think about it and come back to me if they change their mind.
I then got a call from ANOTHER guy in Birmingham (well, not far from there anyway) who wanted to come and see the car immediately. Then someone from Manchester called but I explained that there was someone coming to see it and I'd call him if they didn't buy.
Then the other guy from Birmingham called saying he'd like to see the car and make an offer but I said he was probably too late as there is now a queue.
The guy turned up last night with two of his mates - they were all well built and I thought "Oh poo, I've gotta go out in the car with these guys - there's three of them and one of me". They were fine though. The guy driving floored it and everyone laughed. I don't think they realised just how powerful these cars are. One of the lads has a Cavalier V6 and was well impressed with the Volvo.
Anyway, after a nice long test drive the guy gave me a £400 deposit and will be back on Tuesday to take her away after paying the balance. I'm gutted really, I can't believe my beauty is going. Then again, I'll be getting behind the wheel of another T5 in the next few days.
If any of you see a white M reg 854 T5 in Birmingham with the last three letters of the reg being SRR then it's my old car. If you spot her let me know how she looks.
Regards
Andy

Hi Andy
Glad you got the result you were looking for.
I'll keep my eyes open for the old girl and let you know. Mind you Birmingham is a pretty big place these days!
