My 99 T5 failed with it. Engine light on - sudden loss of power despite full throttle, yet engine ticks over.

Uneven idle
When cruising at constant speed, the car stutters
When cruising at constant speed, the car surges
Sometimes, when in neutral you rev the car the revs will drop to below 500rpm, then rise again and then settle
ETS light comes on...
Symptoms gradually get worse
UNtil car cuts out completely into limp home mode.
Can be reset briefly by turnine engine off, waiting a couple of mins then going again....

sounds a little like mine, it surges under gentle constant acceleration? feels like the brakes are being pressed on and off.

Are these on 1995 850's? Mine seems to partially stutter at 80ish.....then pulls cleanly , although I have got to check the hoses......

There is some sort of position sensor in the side of the throttle body of pre ME7 cars....
