Here's a crazy idea . . .

Do you guys think I could dye some plain wax to help hide scratches ?

In the same way that Colour Magic type polishes work - it's just that I can't get saffron coloured wax off the shelf !

Could I apply the dye directly to the white scratches just to tint them a bit ?

Just an idea !

Chris

why dont you do like my neighbour is doing,
i looked out the window just now & i see him hand painting
his mondeo bumpers with some dulux emulsion undercoat (white)
im assuming thats getting it ready for the gloss coat,
& then touching in any other scratches with it,
i dont think il ask him to have a look at my car & do any scratches for me

nothing wrong with that, my old ex-gpo LDV hippy van came up a treat, though i recomend sanding after the first undercoat, then add second undercoat, sand again, then gloss....much better finish....

why not get some paint and lacquer from volvo and touch them in, then flat and polish ....

takes about 1/2 hr

then the scratches have gone forever and do not return once the wax has decided to drop out or wear off :mischievo

not that i've done this myself, as i am a lazy barsteward :)

it should look good after the gloss has dried in 24 hours,
maybe he will do another coat next weekend

I've tried touching them in with the correct paint - no luck really, the scratches are too fine.

I'd just like to hide the whiteness of the scratches.

I'd have them sprayed, but the bill is horrendous as every panel will been to be done (that was over a year ago now, just had a brainwave about covering them up a bit, lol)

have you tried asking some of these freelance paint or chip repairers,
had a guy do some scratches on a freinds car & i was stunned, you couldnt even see where the marks & scratches were,
done a great job & it wasnt expensive,
i know my local guy is a bit far from you but there must be some local guy to you that mite b able to help,
worth a try i guess

If I had a white/black or red car I'd be laughing !

But saffron no one can touch up - been to all the known people with no joy.

Had a few mobile people and went to a few 'proper' indoor touch up and painting specialists with no joy.

Don't want to waste your guys time :) cheers though !

how deep?

lacquer?
colour coat?
primer?

have you tried something like the 'Mer scratch and stone chip removal kit', worked wonders on my saab, but i'm too lazy to attack my volvo. :)

deep down to the primer, doh.

I'm used to them now and they don't stand out if you're not looking.

As said, just looking into a cheap and cheerful method of colouring them up a bit.

Crayola ?

In a nut shell, no. The colour of the wax will not be opaque enough. Arent there any turtlewax chip crayons available?

Turtle wax doesn't come in orange :(

How about applying the dye directly to an area to see if it takes, even if it means topping it up now and then ?

Just gonna have to try it and see ?

When I found it scratched, to say I was gutted would be an understatement !

Only had the car two weeks, paid £7k for it as it was a really good example - some **** keyed both sides and the bonnet - sick as a dog for days.

Car isn't worth bugger all now :( so I drive the £££££ out of it and love it even more :)
