After having an ECU light appear I tried unsuccessfully to read the code with Neevos OBD.
I took it to local Volvo specialist. After 15 mins of pfaffing they brought it back round to me and said their machine couldnt get a code out of it.

Any ideas?

Complete stab in the dark here - disconnect the battery for 30 minutes; see if that resets it?

Try a different specialists or dare I say it an actual Volvo dealer?

Right, I have checked the continuity of all the wires. All fine.
Tried conecting again and it connects (on one bit of software, all the others still dont find it) but gives me no data.
I told it to reset the MIL and it has!
While I wait for the light to reappear anyone got any ideas what is going on?

HI you could have some one with auto/com to do a paralle measurement,i may find sumeone for you neer you.

My understanding is that late 850's and early 70's (pre me7) don't actually comply with obd 2. When we bought a new Launch scanner at work despite being 'cutting edge' it still won't interface with Volvo's from this era. Apparently although fitted with an obd 2 socket the ecu software still uses flash codes as with the old 'fly wire' 850's so all you can do is read off the flash codes with a suitable scanner (or a few bits of wire and an LED !) but you can't get live data easily from it !

Which doesnt unfortunately explain why I was geting data out of it a month ago but not now.

Still, I just had a burn round the city, dropping my harem off to some gig and the light hasnt returned
