Has anyone here done exhaust mods to their newer style 70 series T5's? If so, I would like to hear about them. Downpipe, cat back, whatever.:gossip:

My 850 has a 2.5" Stainless cat back system - TME - wot I blagged from a mate. Quality and the sound is great, yet subtle enough to be unobtrousive above 3000rpm

OK, thanks Bracer. First off...I see a lot of 2.5 Diameter talk, why not 3", thats what I'm doing with my my 1983 Turbo, it seems to be what everybody is having the most success with on the older cars. (B21, B23 ect) How do you think this would work on the T5's, from what I gather, a huge exhaust makes for a happier turbine.

seems we have two threads now re: exhaust, so I'm just gonna' bring it all back to the "Exhaust Mods" thread if that's OK

On the 850 / S70 / V70 Etc you will struggle to get 3" over the rear axle and in some cases the pipe needs to be crushed flat to gain enough clearance for the suspension travel + you wont see any gain between 2.5 and 3" and in some cases 2.5" will keep the gasses hotter and create a faster flow.

I'm inclined to agree with you, this topic always ends up with exhaust temp./exhaust exit speed chat. It's really a mystery, and I guess every application a little diff. I still plan on using 3" tube under my '83, there is tons of room under there. Sounds like the clearence issue would be the main concern on the T5's though..... Maybe the 3" does better on the older cars due to the manifolds being more restrictive right out of the head therefore slowing down and keeping gases hotter? I dunno....

My 2.5" cat-back showed gains throughout the rev range, but most significant was the reduced spool up time and the beautiful sound :dgrin:

Yah, that's what I wanted to hear from you, quicker spool, and a little more throat....every turbo owners goal I guess. I think I'll start off with the cat back approach.....
