Can you not get to Wellington near Taunton (somerset) because that's where Formula Cars are and they do RICA too.

Adam, that's still an hour and three quarters each way from Poole, so three and a half hours + Time to chip it etc... - that's a day gone :(

I havn't got a day - I'm an IT contractor!

There must be a good tuning / Rolling road place around here you can organise something with surely :) - please

Are 'Formula Cars' open on a saturday... - Maybe's I could arrange something :/

I am a little confused with these installation centres as when i brought my car in for upgrade fault codes were read and no major problems were envisaged apart from a few minor misdemeanours which i was told wasn,t a problem.R.I.C.A was installed and after a couple of hours investigation and rolling road run it was found that the wastegate was seized .I explained that i was on holiday for the next ten days and that i could attend during that time.I subsequently freed off the wastegate and informed VT.Unfortunately they couldn,t fit me in during that time.I then asked if i could attend their centre at Wakefield (to eliminate a 240mile round trip),I was told that this wasn,t possible due to requiring the rolling road facility. How can these centres install the r.i.c.a without the facilities at Bromsgrove?

I understand where you're coming from. The main difference between these centres and ours is that they don't have a rolling road and aren't "tuners" as such, hence why they are installation centres. However, they are all either Volvo specialists, or diagnostics specialist, so they are capable of resolving 99.9% of problems anyway. Also, not everyone is willing to travel to us for the RICA upgrade.

The installation centres tend to shy away from potentially troublesome cars, such as ex-police (no offence intended) because those are the cars that they will have a high chance of not having problems resolved. Also, most of these centres tune the diesels, and most of these diesels tend to be less than 3 years old, so there are very few problems when tuning them.

If there are serious problems with a car, the customer can always come to us to resolve those problems. Yours was a highly unusual problem, so I would not have expected any of our installation centres to have been able to resolve it. It even took ourselves a lot longer than expected to find the problem.

This ex police stigma is getting a little old hat .If there is any doubt to their integrity to accept an upgrade then it shouldn,t be done .I still have the half finished article and am unable to attend until mid November.

It's not a stigma. Some of our installation centres, through their own choice, do not want to work on troublesome cars. Ex-police, LPG cars, cars over 150K miles are examples of such. I cannot force them to tune a car. If they feel they do not wish to get involved with a particular type of car because it's better for them and for the customer, then I think it's fair for both sides.

We have the ability to resolve all problems. Granted, it may take us longer than is possible during a working day, but it's possible. If a car needs a new turbo, and there isn't workshop time allocated to do it, then there is little that can be done.

Can you ask if any of them can or are willing to check the boost now that the wastegate is free?

Yes, the centre in Preston will be willing to check the boost for you, and should be able to tell you how the car is running using their diagnostics and datalogging equipment.

Give them a ring on 01772 201 597 and ask for Dave.

Dave Pengelly Autos (Nottingham) will also be able to check the boost for you, towards the end of September.

The other thing I just thought...

If you are simply wanting to check the boost, isn't there someone local to you on this forum who could lend you a boost gauge?

I'd second the need for a more local fitting centre. I too am in Dorset / Hampshire. Slough and Somerset are too far really, yet I have the money burning a hole in my pocket...
