My insurance is up for renewal in the next two weeks, and I am highly likely to be opting for an engine remap for my D5.

Obviously, it goes without saying that ANY modifications to the car require you to inform your insurance company, but I am aware that many people do not because of the expected price hike.

Without a remap, the cheapest quote from a mainstream insurance company with my 3 years car NCB was around £650. Direct Line offered to take my motorcycle NCB into consideration reducing this to £550.

With a remap, most insurance companies add on a silly premium. But I've just gotten of the phone to Adrian Flux, who will charge me £540 if my car is NOT modified, or £668 if it is remapped. Both with a lower excess than Direct Line.

Chris Knott wanted £1300 even before the remap :troutslap

Moral of the story: Declaring modifications might not cost as much as you think!!

That's weird. Chris Knott insured mine for approx £400.

Ah, yes that would explain it. I'm almost 10 years older!

Hi Adrian
what mods do you have?. As im having new koni shocks and eibach springs and a strutt brace fitted and was wondering about the insurance, in fact i thought i would not have to teel them as its not related to the engine.

Everytime I think about modifiying it, something standard breaks or needs replacing. Maybe next year I'll be in the position of having to see how much mods will add to my £380 from A-plan.

PM'd, and yes with the Nelephant is all on a tick box system...go to new quote, do it online with them, tick modified and then on the next screen it lists all the possible with elephant...keep that screen open and then call them adn you can direct them to exactly what you want adn then they will give you the price......if its not on that screen then they wont quote, though all things are....strut brace come under "suspension..other...not lowered"...there is a box for suspension...lowered.

Hope that helps....

Right, well. It's been a week since I spoke to Adrian Flux, and the documents the guy said he'd put in the post for me first class still haven't turned up so if they can't be bothered to post out written quotes how in the world am I meant to trust them to post out my documents.

I'll definately be giving them a wide berth and going with one of the other specialist insurers.
