I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination but hunting, in my experience, usually means some kind of air leak.
I am sure someone with more knowledge will come by and mention things like MAFs or other technical stuff.
This post is just here to boost your confidence until the experts arrive :)

Hi.
Been thru this on my 2.9.
Get the codes read, this will probably show that the MAF (mass air flow) is faulty. These cost about £250 + fitting.
The car will still probably hunt and show the warning light, the codes will point to the ETM (electronic throttle), these cost about £600 + fitting.
In my opinion leave the MAF as it is and go straight for the ETM. The codes seem to point to the MAF when it gets an initial ETM error when the MAF is not at fault, the sensors pick up emissions errors and automatically blame the MAF.
If the ETM is still original it will need replacing.
If you still get a slightly bumpy ride after this get the coil changed on cylinder six, these are available for £40.00.

Hope this is of some help, a bit depressing on the cash side i know.
