Hi all,

My T5 is currently on the for sale area of this site as I really need to buy a diesel possibly a TDi V70. I read with interest though the response that many have found with the RICA upgrade to 280bhp. Does it really improve the fuel consumption by a possible 3-6mpg? Thats great if it does all that and gives the extra performance enhancements as well. If this is the case nmaybe I should get the upgrade and live with the saloon? These cars are truly great and if I could quench its thirst every now and again it would be the very best! If anyone out there has had this upgrade recently and can comment on the fuel and performance gains I would be grateful!

Thanks very much,

Mupps

i had my t4 ricad and it drunk alot more
so did my d5
and probably so will my t5
tuning fires more fuel in so it goes without saying more performance more fuel
but alot of folk will tell you otherwise "it make your car run more efficently so reduces fuel compsump blahh blahh blahhh" bo@@@ks
ive had over 15 cars chipped up in my 15 years of driving aand they all drink more in my experience

worth it though

I don't want get into a discussion about this, but the 310 improved my motors MPG by approximately 7% when driving normally. It goes without saying that if your going to get it chipped, your not likely to be driving it with fuel economy at the front of your mind, nough said.

I agree with Stu but driven in a conservative manner fuel consumption will get better. But,as stated many times on this forum if fuel costs is an issue .Don,t drive a T5.

What Stu said, although having your car chipped for fuel economy seems like the wrong reason, bring on those extra horses!

Even running a 19T and driving it like a demon I still get 26 mpg which is the same as my car returned as standard!:B_steerin

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the response and I do understand all that you are saying. I think your right regarding if you buy a T5 you should be prepared to the costs. I shall now be keeping my T5 since some fool has keyed my car over the past two days!! (why do people do it?) Anycase reckon I should just get the upgrade and enjoy whatever the fuel mpg.

Ta very much to all for you feedback and I shall be reading the threads of others in interest!

I had the 304 upgrade done at the beginning of August and around town i'm getting 27mpg as before i was getting 25mpg. Using the car as intended it will drop to around 24mpg but before around 20mpg. In my opinion the rica gives a win win situation. The only bummer was VT offered there bring a mate offer a week later which would of saved me £90.:cuckoo:
