after much deliberating ,searching, general dithering, and fussing over running costs and the like I've spent the majority of my new car budget on........wait for it....
a diesel grande punto! This will be my every day zip around and work car.

Its left a bit over for a toy more specifically a t5 toy.
Would you look for a good t5r 850r upto 4.5k or spend half that or less on a normal / low spec t5 and the rest on upgrades. Rememeber this will be a weekend thrash about only, air con not working lights on the dashboard and fuel cost will no longer be such a concern:biggrin:

Just buy whatever takes your fancy. Personally I think if your just looking for a toy then buy a lesser spec and then make it a bit faster. I bought a T5 GLE saloon with only 84k miles and a FSH for £1350 a couple of weeks ago - it still has some creature comforts - full leather, heated seats, dual climate. Ok thats about it, but still with your budget then plenty left for having fun.

Well thats my take on it anyway - its whatever you want anyway!

hmm penzance cornwall.... perhaps we could be penpals!

would a normal t5 engine take a 19t upgrade or is that only suitable for R spec engines?

Yes a normal T5 engine can take a 19T.
