I am presuming you are using the stats package on your hosting account to manage your hits etc.... ie AWstats etc

I have found posting a free counter helps as well and can give you a lot more info on what and where your visitors are going to. I use www.countmypage.com it is free and the info you get is quite good - especially the referred from bits.
