Hi Guys,

My car has covered 89K miles and has a FVSH. It is fitted with the 5 speed Adaptive gearbox, the one without the Sport/Economy selector button.

Recently if I accelerate aggresively all is well untill I take my foot "off" the accelerator to stop the acceleration, hard to explain but the car snatches as if something has play in it, all I can think of is the gearbox, but no warning lights and if I drive like a lemon you would never detect a problem.

No shortage of power but I am now reluctanct to give it a boot full for fear of this unpleasent deceleration sensation.

I had the Automatic transmission fluid replaced at 66K as a precaution.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Patrick

P.S. Can anybody recommend the Volvo maintenance specialist in Wickford, Essex? If so do you have their contact details.

Check your top engine stab bush before you panic could be that. See pic its the blue one, black on yours if standard and will be alloy brk.

Hi Engineer,

Just checked, the existing top engine mount is in poor condition but still holding together.

It was replaced under manufactures warranty at about 45K miles by another Volvo one. I had intended when this one goes to replace it with a poly one which I believe will last the life of the car.

However on this occasion I reckon the top engine mount is OK, at least for now.

Any other suggestions?

Patrick

Just check and make sure the bolt going through the top mount is tight, I had a similar problem with mine. I checked all the mounts, amongst other things and it turned out that the bolt going through the top mount was loose, it was moving around under braking/acceleration. Might be worth a check.

Hi Fletch,

Thanks for getting back to me.

After inspecting the existing upper engine mount my gut feeling it is not the cause of my problem.

However there would be no point in me asking advice if I did not take it so tomorrow I will order a replacement from Parts for Volvo's.

How easy / difficult is this to replace?
Do you have to knock out the old bush?
Do you still use the existing ali housing?
Sorry for all the questions........

Does anybody sell a mount that is simply bolt on, plug and play sort of speak.
Please remember that the mount is different from the 1998 / 99 upper engine mounts and that fitted to the 850's

Patrick,

Mine is "Powerflex" (Purple in colour). I just cut what was left of my rubber with hacksaw and the centre rubber falls out. Then carefully cut outer part again with hacksaw being VERY vareful as mount is ally. I did`nt actually cut right through and then used big screw driver and hammer to fold what was left over and it fell out!! This may help if you understand it!! Cheers Fletch

Fletch on ours Me7 > it should be the yelllow bush if i am not mistaken, the purple ones were for the earlier cars,

Purple v Yellow

Now it is confusing.....

Fletch, I understand your description for removal of the old bush.

Is the new bush oversized for the hole? Or will it just drop into the ally housing?

What do you guys recommend for bush then, i.e. manufacturer and a place to buy it?

Brought the car to the main dealer (Lookers in Chelmsford) today.

Umm, frustrating....I could not reproduce the defect, despite lots of high speed runs around Chelmsford.

Car connected to VADIS, no fault codes, all operations with parameters.
Software versions checked for the Engine ECU, A/T ECU and the ETM, all found to be the most up to date version for the car.

Weird, recently I have thought the car has not been running very well, however the "R" specialist at Lookers reckons all is`well and the car is running perfectly. After he told me that I genuinely believed the car was better......I must be going mad................

He did check the upper engine mount and it is OK, needs replacing at the next service that's all.

I will carry on and replace the Upper engine mounts, the big and small ones, for now. Put the rest down to experience.

I got one from GSFcarparts.com for my Wifes C70. As I said b4 Campbell sent me one down for mine. It has PFF88-105 on it and it is a Purple Powerflex, however just been on partsforvolvosonline and it should have a yellow one PFF88-612 (-105 is for 850). Thanks Siamblue for pointing this out will order correct one today.
Fletch

The purple one PFF88 -105 will fit S/V/C 70 `s upto 1998 as i`ve got one on my 1998 MY V70 as is stated on the PFS website

Cheers
