Hi guys,

Have been in contact with Andrew via the Forum, and it seems that I have blown one of my breather/air pipes to the Turbo, (Renault Clio 16v Blah Blah, Pulled up next to me at a set of lights, mega drum an base, showing off to his mates, engaged the 'warp drive' and left him for dead, luckily the pipe went as I turned off the carriageway! I really ought to grow up...) I am lucky enough to have a Private Volvo specialist nearby, and am going to take it to have the 'obvious' rectified, However... Even though I have always sworn I would keep her as standard as possible, I 'feel the need... for MORE speed', I have come into a bit of money, so I would like to improve the performance of the old girl, any advice with reference to 'chipping', upgrading, Brakes, Struts, etc etc would be gratefully appreciated (preferably with a few descriptions in plain English, as even though I have owned my car for a year, I don't have the depth of knowledge you guys have) Many thanks,

MadPierre

You know, it has to be done. As much as i try and drive responsible sometimes you have to show these kids. A small sticker in rear window saying something like " R is for Rapido ". Hmm, now i need a R to go with my saying :cussing:

Hey there m8y,

It sounds like u may b gettin serious with the moddin:biggrin: ...cooool!

Not sure if I'm allowed 2 advertise on anyones behalf (been doin it 4 around 3 weeks now!) but check out my sig...a long way 2 travel 4 ya but these boys r truely very special with one off and all kinds o upgrades...funnily enough I was talkin 2 Bill 2nite when visitin 2 see how my car's comin along n he showed me a 90-degree silencer pipe that his Son (Chris, my m8) has made 4 a trike they r currently buildin...incredible one off workmanship, let me tell ya!

I have decided 2 stick with my 850 n using ALOT of they're help will b turnin it in2 a beast in more ways than 1, they have never worked so closely or heavily on a Volvo b4, especially not a T5 so they r lookin 4ward 2 it as much as me!

All the very best with ur tunin m8. I'd say if u wanna keep it more straight down the middle, tried n tested stylee, VTUK could b ur best bet...the world, as they say, is ur oyster my man:wink: ...

Mark.

Depends what you have now. If it is decent then remapping is a worthwhile investment.

Hi Dave,
What does remapping involve? The car is in excellent condition (except for the breather pipe) she still runs well, just wondering what the cost is for remapping? and the best place to get it done.
Many thanks.

I personally favour HLM chiptuning aka Volvotuning aka VT - RICA remap - there are many options but the most common is the 310bhp remap.

Much depends on budget - give Adam a ring or PM him - http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/member.php?find=lastposter&t=12274

Hi mate,
Where is this place? as I will spare no expense on my girl! If you can give me the details I would really appreciate it.

www.volvotuninguk.com (http://www.volvotuninguk.com) is the web address

depends what you have in mind. Straight remap will make the most of what hardware you already have in place. If you want to go further then look at Stage 2 tuning which involves turbo replacement and downpipe upgrade.

350BHP is relatively easy to achive. Results vary depending on age, condition and mileage.

There are alternatives but I only have experience with RICA.

Look for RICA in a search and look for other tuning threads and see what is what

Thanks Dave, She is Dealer serviced from new, Bog Standard, Very good nick, and apart from the damage I have caused her, there has been not problems at all, In fact, berfore I got the car, she had been parked up for 3 years, and all i have done is an oil change, filters etc etc. I think what you advise may be a good option. Any advice for the best places to go??

Nope, thats sqn Ldr as in, I decided to fly a volvo through the air and land it using the vtol system, in an unauthorised landing area(field)
(to those who dont know what vtol is,its the principle that harrier jump jets use, Vertical Take Off and Landing!!)
sorry Dave, couldnt resist!

Just from what I've learnt since ownin my 850 and wantin 2 extract silly horses, it would seem that possibly 150k is too much to go all out on...I may well b wrong here and I'm ready 2 stand corrected but personally when it comes 2 upgradin my motor it's gonna b a bottom up rebuild if I wish 2 acheive the kinda figures/performance I want. And it sounds like ur after similar things from a similarly high mile lump/transmission etc?! I trust the guys I am workin with and am yet to RR mine 2 find out where it stands Power/Torque wise but with 148k on the clock and wantin 300++, I think a full rebuild is a kinda no brainer, 4 my wagon anyway...

Keep us posted on ur progress please m8, and best o luck:)

I agree 350hp even with a bigger 19t is really going to struggle to make 350 hp i would say that thats not realistic! My car with 215,000 miles on the clock makes 315hp fly power 272 @ wheels and 335lbft with 285lbft still left at 5500rpm this is enough to make my car trap at 104.8 at santa pod.
The power is down because the engine is old, i have done alot of work to help the car breathe 3inch exhast different exhaust manifold different intake pipe etc etc and it has a k24 turbo which is slightly bigger than a 19t . I still dont think it will get to 350hp when rebuilt on this spec, without a turbo alot larger than a 19t.I would say that from a chip 265hp @ fly would be a good result, and will feel nice and quick becasue of all the torque.

A 19T on a T5 with the right setup, can make over 300 bhp @ wheels. There are people on this forum who have taken their cars to other dynos and measured 350 bhp @ fly with their 19T setups. I'm not saying that all 19T cars will get these figures, but it's definately possible! :)

Difficult to predict, mine,s 280 WHP and 430NM and its done over 160k with just a 19T and custom map so well over 320 BHP
It all dependes on how the cars been used and maintained etc etc!

If you found an old 850 T5 with say 40 k on the clock I bet it wouldnt be much better if at all than one thats done 100k and been looked after, I believe cars can do to few miles also!

Good point, nicely put m8!

Maybe I'm just paranoid about askin my engine n runnin gear 2 start producin 350 odd BHP, n torque to match with just "bolt-on" mods, after it's already covered an "unknown 2 me" 148k? I cannot disagree tho, I'm sure it's possible (especially with these 'ere Volvo blocks etc...) but like I said I'll go 4 the full rebuild just 4 peace o mind, I hope?!?!?! Who knows wot 2 do...ekkk!

Many thanks for the advice guys, I reckon she will be alright, I know for a fact the car has been dealer serviced from new, (my brother owned it from new before i bought it) I will get it looked at, see what my optoins are and keep you posted!
