Hi guys.

Been reading a alot of good topic's on here. Read one the other day about top speed and that the T5 will reach around 150 + .

Been trying mine out latley. Does it take a while to get to the top speed, Just asking as mine gets to about 130 quite quick and then runs out of steam. I might get a little more out of it, but thought it should get to the max speed quite quick.

Or am i wrong.

On the private track i always use i managed to get up to about 143 without too much trouble, i found leaving her in 4th till in the high 110's (i think!) helped in me get there...

mine touched just over 130 in 4th on a private test track very recently, then changed to fifth, pulled well all the way up i thought

(will add this was speedo, not GPS)

I find that you can reach 120+ very quickly in fourth. Once changed up to fifth it is a very gradual process, but you should reach 140+ with ease and be able to hold it on nice wide straight private roads with three lanes:mischievo ....anything above that for me is weather and geography dependant, but I can take mine off the clock on a local long down hill section....

Get a 19t and a raised rev limit will do 139 in 4th then change into 5th!

Ive hit 135 with ease today in 5th just cruising and braking hard for all the other slow drivers.
My 19T set up theres no need to change down to 4th 90-130 is rapid and full boosting nicely at 100 mph.
All the stock T5 s ive driven are fast to 135 mph and yes they do back off a bit with the smaller turbos but they do carry on going but the turbos done its best work upto 5-5500 rpm.
It seems pointless in every day driving ringing the nads of it in 3rd and 4th with all that mid range torque, although mine will do about 105+ in 3rd 135 + in 4th and god knows what in 5th off the the clock I should imagine!

Mind you your C70 Aftershock was ME7 and they do like to rev higher than the earlier models.

Mine with the original turbo and remap was quick to 140 mph a little slower to 150 and then it would just squeeze 156 mph, when she was running rough before the 19 T she would only do 144 at a bit over 5500 rpm but that was with a lot of worn knackered 160K parts.

Thaks for great advice guys.

Forgot to mention that mines a AUTO. So maybe that dosen't help. It does get to 130 no problem. Just a little down as i thought i would be looking at aleast 145 plus.

was going to book in to get it chipped and a full miltek exhaust. Maybe that will help.

Im running a box c70 2.4 turbo (lpt) on an '03' 2003 auto, and believe me before my turbo control valve started playing up, I was often getting a top speed of 158-159 and 152 on gps, SO can't wait to get me monster moded!!!

ive got to be honest here guys but i have on at least 3 occasions had my T4 pulling to 140 like a frieght rain and up to 150 (speedo reading) on private land and it was still going, not pulling hard but at least another 5mph or so.

i was just wondering why it appears that the T5 struggles above 140 from what has been written in this thread, just interested in the differance in top end T4 to T5?

Just adding a bit more my first 850T5 which was a goodun would do 147 mph on standard unleaded I once had her 5 up at 140 and still accelerating.

My V70 CD T5 would just nudge 150 on shell optimax as stock, Once Ricad it would hit 150 like as quickly as it used to hit 140.

Autocar claimed 141 mph for the original 850 estate , I bet they wernt using optimax and it may have been auto.
Volvo claimed 149 mph for the 850 T5 s when new and running on 98 ron.
Im sure with enough space and down hill more would be acheviable!
Auto Express claimed 146 mph for a V70 T5 auto, again I bet this wasnt on optimax as autos have higher top gears.

Lots of things will affect your cars top speed, 1 quality of fuel, 2 blocked or filthy fuel filters these often get neglected by Full Volvo Service History, 3 crap air filters, 4 presished /split vac hoses (often not easily spotted), 5 worn plugs HT leads rotar arms and dizzy cap, 6 knackered down pipes and catalictic converters, 7Knackered boost control solinoid, 8 F++ked air meter,9 Worn turbo, 10 Very tired engine or other fault,11 Binding brakes or worn faulty auto box. 12 pop bottle lid under throtle etc etc or a crap modification!
Im sure Adam or someone could expand even further on the above!
I would try and go in another similar car and see how they compare, or start with a few cheaper ones of the above!

I have an S70 T5 Auto and although I haven't tried really pushing it on the motorway I have had 136 mph out of it on a 1 mile long piece of dual carriageway near me which the local boyracers use as a race track (it has a roundabout at each end no adjoining roads along its length so makes a great impromptu evening dragstrip).

The car is still pulling at this speed but I run out of road - Bah!!

Mine will do 150+ on the odo, I have had 155+ within a 2mile stretch from around 65'ish and it's standard and auto. It pulls like a train.

Thanks for the further input guys.

Think the 1st port of call is is to check out all what as been mentioned above. Might start of with a good little service, as i haven't done one since having the car and will take it from there.

Also might take it to chiptunning to get it chipped and get them to look over it as well, as they do a check before doing the work..

thanks

As for the top speeds that's ok but how about a bendy bit of 3 lane 'private' road. I keep pushing mine a bit more each time but how well does the DTSC (DSTC???) work? I know a lot of it's in my mind because I'm driving an estate and constantly feel that the back end will slide out.

Any info?

Cheers
