I purchased my C70 (2001) last November and it is about to hit 80,000 miles so I have decided it needs a service. I don't want to take it to a Volvo dealer due to cost so will take it to my local garage. I was going to ask them to do the following:
cam belt
oil change
check fluids (brake etc)
check brakes.

The hinge has also gone on the drivers door and needs welding (a common problem I see)

Is there anything else I should have done? The suspension seems a little squeaky too.

I am also under the impression that the service light will come on at 80,000 miles. I have 100 miles to go ! I have bought instructions of how to turn this off on e-bay for £ 2. Does this work?

As you can see, I have no/very little mechanicall knowledge.

Any help appreciated ! cheers

Unless your local garage has access to a Volvo computer take it to the dealer, if you really dont want to pay about 10-15% more then find a Volvo specialist.

You should have asked on here about switching the light off, its free!

has the car got any history then?

you shoud be on 12,000 mile intervals with your car, meaning the service should be due at either 78,000 miles or 90,000 miles. chances are that somene has left one service go a bit overdue which is why the service light has not come on yet, as it will come on exactly 12,000 miles after the last one was done.

If possible, check through any history of the services you may have (Service book for one) and see whats been done and when, and what service is needed next

If its a 78,000 mile service you would need:

Oil and Filter Change
Air Filter Change
Pollen Filter Change

If its a 90,000 mile service you would need:
Oil and Filter Change
Fuel Filter Change
Timing Belt & Tensioner Change
Auxiliary Belt Change
Pollen Filter Change

i will double check this tomorrow when i can see an actual service sheet for your car, but i am almost sure thats correct :)

oh yeah, and as for people selling this service light info on ebay... shocking! (wishes i thought of it though lol) - it should work though mate, if its telling you how to do it by using the trip reset button method, which i assume it is.

Rufe,
Thanks for your help. There is no service history so I think I shall have the 90k service done now - esp as I am not sure if the cam belt has been done.
I didn't think to look here for the service light but yes, it is the trip reset method. Oh well, only £ 2 wasted! My service light isn't on yet but i'm sure I read somewhere that it comes on at 80K. I must've dreamt it! Thanks for your help though. Anyone recommend a garage in the Bristol area?
