I was not happy with my brakingperformance however the upgrade to the R brakes was not possible with my 17" rims. Volvo sells a big brake kit for the S60/V70. This kit contains 320 mm disks, new calipers, and hoses. In the Netherlands it costs +/- € 700. I got mine from European Tuning this weekend. They also installed CTF GroupN discs with Mevius Racing pads at the rear. The performance is good. If anyone is looking for more braking performance but wants to keep 17" rims. This is really good value for money.

Are these larger 320mm disks, police-spec brakes as you say in your sig?
Does that mean that ex-plod cars have 320mm discs as standard?

This makes sense a bit now. I recently changed my front brake pads and just ordered standard pads but they didn't fit. I had to go back and order police-spec pads (with wear indicators).

Not a lot of dealers know that there’s a 17” brake Performance kit also for the S60/V70/S80 and Volvo has never showed its existence in any option advertise. In the Netherlands VADIS/VIDA system this kit is shown as a 'UK police' option.

I presume that these sets are therefore standard for UK police cars. That explains the difference. By the way; the numbers are: Set left - 9485307 Right - 9485308.

So my cheap and cheerful ex-police V70, already has uprated brakes worth 500 quid. Excellent. Ex-plod cars are such a bargain, really.

Hi

Does anybody know if these 320mm discs will fit a S70 classic?

Cheers

Bob

Just ordered the 320mm big brake kit from partsforvolvosonline.com £417.22 + £8.99 delivery.

Will let all know next week if these are any good.

I'd be interested to see what you think.

To clarify, this is new caliper carriers, pipes, 320 discs and lines? Seems like a lot of £££.

I wonder how much better they will be as the caliper and pads are the same as what you've got already???

Not knocking it especially as I went 286 to 305 by replacing the carriers.

What are you running now? 286 or 305?

If 305 I'm sure a D5 owner might want to upgrade to 305 like I did by buying your old carriers...

Wonder how much Rufe could do that kit for?

to clear this up this is not a standard police part, ex plods will have 305mm disks

On the P1 models this accessory brake kit was listed on the same page as the other disks and pads, but on the P2 models they hid them away under special vehicles, on a page shwoing police brakes, thoguh like i said this was never a standard police fitment. We have never supplied these disks to any police vehicle. (and i have sold more disks and pads to police vehicles between the two local constabulary vehicle maintenance units than for any other type of car i would say).

it is listed as an optional kit (17")

on the parts catalogues the info is there but seeing as we rarely sell these if ever, i can understand why some dealers have never heard of them i suppose.

on screen there are typically 2 sizes of brake set up listed, 15" and 16" setups, or more commonly known as the 288mm and 305mm (302mm diameter on P1 cars) and then you also have the rare 17" kits. we have had trouble getting them in the past as the calipers were a pain to get hold of if i remember right. The part numbers for these kits are 9485307 LH and 9485308 RH, and they are £670 inc vat retail, per kit, so not cheap by any standard.

So for enough to do both sides, even after the 15% discount i could give on these you would still be looking at just over £1200 including the delivery (about 40kgs worth), so there is no way a main dealer can compete with the aftermarket non genuine versions like partsforvolvosonline.com are selling i am afraid, even if they knew where to look on VIDA.

Thanks Simon.

To clarify the 320mm caliper has a different part number to the 305 caliper and is physically different?

They just *look* very similar in the first picture...

I was looking at a Focus ST today and its front calipers looked a lot bigger than those on my 305mm T5 fronts. Wonder if they are worth investigation?

What would the front brakes off an S60 T5 (05) be?, I was looking at them today and they looked pretty big.

Sorry to drag this one up but wanted to point out that the PFS option is using the stock caliper - hence the price difference. £1200 is for big discs, new calipers and pads is the going rate on a full big brake upgrade. Been looking at big brake kits - is this Volvo kit being used by anyone here?

Hi Huw :)

I'm sure $hed on T5D5 fitted some ex-plod 320's to his V70 P2. I'm sure Tony could sort you out.

I've been running the 320mm upgrade kit from partsforvolvosonline.com for some months now & i feel / notice a huge improvement over the standard 286mm.
This kit fits under the standard S80 17" alloys no probs.

I also changed the standard brake hoses for goodridge one front & back.
I'm still running standard volvo brake pads the now,
but they are getting a bit thin,
so looking to upgrade to better ones next month or so. :)

I have a ex-Surrey V70 T5 SE, 2005 vintage on a 54 plate. That has, according to the part numbers and info picked up from the local dealer, XC90 brakes up front, as in the 320mm discs, etc...

That should explain the upgrade a bit easier.
