Noisy steering

My steering pump is making the noises you usually get when trying to steer more while on full lock whenever it is turned at all.
Are these death throes? :(

umm maybe could do with a change of fluid b4 you start panicing too much
also check the belt tension

Is it standard steering box fluid or does it need to be anything fancy?
