Hello everybody. Earlier on today i was talking to a ex volvo technician about my car. We came on to the topic of top end speeds. He mentioned to me my T5 auto should reach about the mid 140's, but i told him i cannot exceed 130 @ approx 5500 rpm. Does any know if the auto's are rev limited/ restricted in any way. Also my mate has a BMW 130i.....he started edging away from 70ish.

T5 auto I think as standard should do 149 if not a little more.

Never had a go with a 130i so cant comment on it, its a small car with alot of power so could well be a bit quicker.

Top speed can differ when New an 854 T5 manual would do 149 mph thats on 98 ron,
Yours should do more than 130 though, optimax should find some of those missing horses other than that you could need a good service , you may have an air leak , a blockage or restriction in the exhaust , a worn turbo, or a very tired engine.
My old 854 T5 manual on standard unleaded would do 147 mph as stock out the box with 120K on , my Mrs 854 T5 is still pulling at 135 mph on normal fuel ( I havent had the chance to push it further.
My current V70 T5 topped out around 145 on normal unleaded but with optimax in her she would do 150 mph ( volvo claimed 152 although independent tests said 145-146.) she had got 130K on the clock roof rails and being CD spec a bit more weight than most!

I would start with some optimax a good service and look for air leaks

I have an S70 T5 Auto and I haven't actually been on a long enough empty stretch to really test the top speed but I regularly travel a 1 mile long piece of dual carriageway and my car will get up to 136 mph and is still quite a long way from the redline at this speed and still pulling quite nicely.

If yours is only hitting 130 mph and really won't go any higher then something is certainly not quite right.

Definitely worth meeting up with somebody who knows what they're looking for, vacuum pipes are certainly worth checking I reckon - my own car had a vacuum pipe elbow with a big hole in it that was affecting the fuelling.

I have had my c70 t5 at 155mph, reading on snooper, when i had it, at about 5700rpm

No idea mate why would not be pushing 150+, as if u revving high the engine is working, as apose to it not reaching high revs because of lack of strength

1996 855T5 Auto, with 280 Rica, (which removes the speed limiter, I believe) saw 157mph at Millbrook, by GPS & had it cruising at 140+ on the Autobahn & feeling quite un-stressed. BTW, I only feed it supermarket 95 RON.

one of the really immature things that i love about my car is that it is offically 'limited' to 155! hmmmm - no way i'd want to try tho lol

Rica etc will take things even further, as far as I know the max speed for a 850 or classic 70 series in manual form is 171 mph, on the speedo this would be around 180 if we had enough numbers!

i have had 147mph on a 'racetrack' and my car was completely unstressed and was still accelerating steadily!

Not been much over 130, but my C70 auto gets to 130 no probs and is still pulling hard! 150K miles on the clock and totally standard!
Reckon you need to give it a good service beacuse T5's should definately do at least 140 with relative ease!

A standard 850 with a bit of abuse will eventually go off the clock using a hill and a bit of wind assistance... but I did say eventually..... and no I'm not admitting to where to try...
