I want to connect my OBD socket up to my to-be-built car PC to get a nice readout of engine gumph while driving.

These guys do a cable http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_STNISO.html
but seem insistant that my '99-V70 doesnt have ODB-II.

Does it? If not what is the connector on the armrest with the OBD-II label?

Yes. What I mean is, is that OBD-II (despite them saying it isnt fitted)? Or is it something else ?

Yes, that should work - your car has OBD-II only the very early 850s have OBD afaik.

Chris

PS. have you seen on EBay the PC powersupply designed for cars - ie. 12v straight in from the battery rather than messing about with invertors etc. ?

Well I have one of those interfaces bought from Gendan and it connects no problem to the interface in the armrest in my 98 S70. I have used the Scantool software to read the codes and reset them (after I sorted out my elbow problem) so should deffo work in yours too.

Recommend the M2-ATX
Smooth current during cranking, shutdown/hibernate timer, battery monitor so shuts down if the battery gets too low etc

Wouldnt touch an invertor with a (wooden) bargepole :)

Or you could just do what i did and buy a USB-OBDII cable, plug it into your lappy, download some free software, like the scan tool and read codes and data :)

£35.00 and job done :)

I've got an OBD2-usb dongle you can borrow if you want to try it. It didnt work for me on my 850 and I leant it to someone in York and he had no luck but I cant remember which car it was used on. You'll need a lappie or carpc with usb to use it or a long usb extension lead to the house!

I had success with neevos reader.

Car was idling, sat outside. Day was very hot and it has been sat there all day.
Are these results normal?
In particular the timing advance.

Software running was Centrifuse which is a multi-front-end for in-car computers (before people ask).

PS no error codes \o/

None of that technical engine stuff means much to me but Air intake temp of 44C :jaw: Was it that hot in Leeds today? Seemed it, I managed 5 mins cleaning the car windows before I had to rush indoors. Wanted to replace my dash cluster bulbs as one has gone but I'll wait for it to be a lot below 40C before I do :)

Temp on the dash said 30.
It was parked all day in a tight alley behind my house.

It may be wrong as I had to tell the software it was something else as that particular one wasnt in the list. but the idle and some others look right

The intake temp is measured under the bonnet and it could well be 44 degrees there with the engine running at idle on a hot day. Sounds about right.

Yeah, as I say, the only one that looked a bit wierd to me was the timing advance.
Blipping the accelerator sent it up higher.

There's no rush on returning that dongle Baj so just hang out for one at a decent price, you may be thinking that you need to return it in a couple of weeks, I won't be bothered if it's a couple of months!

Have you guys ever tried turning off the day running lights, or airbags etc. or has the software not been comprehensive enough?

Driving a 2000 S60, and the day running lights are driving me mad.

But the fault code reading for normal use looks handy.
