To follow on from this:

My 17'' V70 wheels have 225/45 17 but my BBS Nebulas are wearing 225/45 18- shouldn't they be 225/40 18?

I'm sure 18'' Pegasus from the V70R wear 235/40/18 which is very similar to the width and height of 225/45 17.

Is the width of an 18'' Pegasus (8J 18 46) the same as an 18'' Nebula (8J18 H2)? Is that what the 8J is all about?

What size tyres should I be fitting in the future to my Pegs and Nebulas?

235 40 18 is correct for nebula. apart from s80 that is.
