Now I know this may sound daft. But I wasn't gifted in mechanics or brain power being a badger. But I am upgrading to 17" wheels soon, and wondered , will I need a larger space saver for the boot (7 seater in place). Or is the diameter of the space saver the same as 17" wheel. I never know how this works........
205/50 16 v 215/45 17 (or whatever) so is that the same diameter/circumference. I can see the track is slightly wider.

the 17's will have a larger circumference
you could put something like a 205 60 or a 205 65 on the spare which will make it about the same circ but to be honest you are only really going to use it to get to a gge and get the tyre repaired /replaced

Like he said..
Its the rolling radius or circumference of the tyre and wheel combination thats important.
Use this to get it about right if you are using a different wheel as a spare!

Plus if you upgrade to 302mm brakes on the front your 16" space saver wont fit on the front

The stock tyre for 17s on the 850/V70 is 205/45/17 - As long as you go for these rather than 215s, the overall rolling radius will be around the same as your old wheel/tyre combination, so you can use your existing spare. All the suspension geometry etc is designed around the original rolling radius so personally i would stick with the 205s
