Just had marshalls (cambridge) Volvo's report on my car. The erratic idle was the airflow mass sensor not the ETM as i was dreading (although still £152) Just in case anyone else has the irratic idle problem. Its not all grim possibilities :)

No they just siad it needed fitting and they dont have it in stock. They made some noise about the torque bar bush (uprated) i asked for but told them definatly not to fit it.

Its in for a service anyhow and timing belt (at 88500 miles) because the lying b@stard i bought it from didnt actually have it changed when the service book says (Volvo stamp but no mention of belt change)

Try that for a MAF you can DIY fit; just contact the guy with the Bosch part number on your current MAF.

Looks like they have removed the original already without a spare to replace. Looks like i will be driving the V50 courtesy car home tonight!

anyone know how the plastic tube comes off the etm. I tried today and it would not budge. just like to inspect the etm then go from there. bolts are a pain to get to even with a mirror. In the end i gave up due to rain and grazed knuckles

Jubliee clip - feel around for it and use a 7mm socket on it. May need persuading to come down.

The bolts (as you could see with the mirror) go around the intake - much easy to take off with the tube not in the way.

Thanks for that. there is no jubilee clip on my hose and when i tug at it the hose comes away 3mm or so but leaves the part where the jubilee clip should be so i think i may need a new one!!.May be the cause of the uneven idle?

Mass airflow sensor changed. Cleared the fault codes but it also needed the ETM cleaning (along with throttle body). The dearest service i have ever had (by about 3x!) At least its going to be spot on after i get it back :)

You hope !

I had 2 MAFs, 3 ETMS and all it was, was those pesky one-way valves.

I was worried for a second. Those where the first things i checked and then had rechecked. I also have it from the horsers mouth that the dealer wont charge me for the cleaning (2.5 hours aparently) if it doesnt solve it.

Hi - could you elaborate on the "one way valves" ?

Cheers

Here you go. A useful thread. I checked my valve in about 5 minutes. Its very easy to do.
