Well thats my C70 T5 booked into the dealer for Monday afternoon to get a diagnostics check to see if its the ETM thats causing the irratic idle, although they dont seem to think so as he said the management light would come on if it was the ETM and he is inclined to think it may just be a sensor ....... but im expecting it to be the ETM tbh .. lol :) .......

Mine is still at the dealers and will be overnight again! The mass airflow was replaced which didnt fix the problem. Now they want to clean out the throttle body assembly. It better work. The running bill for major service (inc timing belt) at the moment stands at £1300! I'm not paying anymore than that! Anyone know a doctor wanting to pay for a Kidney?

Mine went into the dealers on Monday and they reported that the ETM is fine, the problem ..... so they say ... is the throttle body is very dirty, so it went back into the dealers this morning to get the throttle body stripped and cleaned so according to them that will cure the problem .....hope so.

They also mentioned the car had displayed 7 other codes but they had all cleared themselves and aparantly this is normal so i should not worry, seemingly the code has to be alerted 12 - 13 times before it activates the light on the dash so if i dont get a light then all is well .... lol

Monkey_boy .... thats a very scary price ... WOW ... i checked on Monday and the service depertment at Volvo says that a major service for mine is £375 providing nothing major wrong is found and all goes well .. lol ... but tbh im not that keen on letting my car get to 110k before i change the timing belt and tensioners so i might get it done sooner for peace of mind plus when its 110k service does arrive its going to be abit cheaper as the t/b has already been done.

Telling me its a scary price. I have asked for a breakdown of whats been done and how much each item has cost. They quoted 2.5 hours for the ETM/throttle body clean. 3 hours to weld the exhaust bracket! they told me it needed a tack and that the gear was already set up. Then when i check they marked 3 hours labour! I feel a heated discussion fast approuching with the dealer!

For my code check i was charged £28 and for the throttle body clean £85 ..

3 hours for a weld !!!!! ... are they using a lighter to heat the metal up ???

Thats what i was wondering. Was yours at a main dealer? I will check the time they have quoted for the throttle clean. I was told dead straight 2.5 to 3 hours labour. and at £90 per hour thats getting on a bit. For £1300 i want it as good as off of the factory floor. Its 1/4 of what i paid for the car!

Just been and collected the car from the dealers, no lumpy idle and the pull away from stand still and the gearchange is as sweet as a nut, really happy with it ...

I was £28 for the diagnostic check and £85 for the throttle housing to be cleaned, so total bill inc VAT was £133 which i dont think was too bad.

OK. Saw ther breakdown of the bill. Its not as bad as i was lead to believe over the phone (depending on how bad a £1290 bill is!) the welding was done in 20 minutes after all. it was the bracket on the chassis apparently (i havent seen) Although a throttle body clean was in the hundreds the machanical stripped the ETM and cleaned everything inside that as well. the service was £380 plus parts (inc timing belt) the mass arflow sensor was £200! service parts where standard although pricey (£50 for semi synthetic oil!) parts. other than that it was the labour over 3 days (christ knows why it was so slow). However my sickening feeling handing over a roll of 20's was soon forgotten after getting in the driving seat and truly feeling the difference. Should i have taken it to a main dealer? In hindsight no. But i had only just bought the car and after seeing the suposedly new timing belt (lying b*stard i bought it from) i am glad i got it booked in ASAP. A good indapendent specialist in either the north essex of cambs region is needed.

Good you got it back and its running nice again, if it makes you feel better i took my C70 to an independant for its 80K service as i grudged handing over £310 to Volvo and to be honest i wish i had went to Volvo and got it done as i was not happy at all with the independants level of standard's ... shocking .. it wont be going back, next time im giving it to the Volvo and i'll pay the money ... lol
