turbo timer

I remember my uncle blowing 4 turbos on his 600bhp RS500 cosworth. Admittadly my T5 isnt going to take this kind of abuse (or power) but are turbo timers worth it? How do they work (from what i can gather they leave the engine ticking over for a few minutes) Dont they play havoc with the alarm?

Thanks for the links. I think with my driving style (i take it easy towards the end of a trip) that it wouldnt be needed and byt hte sounds of it the hassles with alarms/remote locking arent worth it.
