I understand that these are not a good idea in 850s ? How bad are they for the handbrake shoes?
I give the car to my bother for 3 bloody days !!!:cussing:

No idea, though they were great in my old 360 GLT, managed to outrun plod one day by doing one up a sharp turned dirt track and turning my lights off...... :haha:

Classic!!

I was told by my local garage that, my very rare, handbrake turn antics resulted in the lining from the handbrake shoes being ripped off?

oh Yeah, and the 340's are great for gain sideways in, mates got a diesel one!!

Linings coming off are not unknown just with the car being parked up for a short period of time with the hand brake on...I hate to think what a hand brake turn would do to them! :eye-poppi

Never really considered or even wanted to try one in mine...just doesn't seem that sort of car. Even in the other cars it's reserved for a bit of fun in the snow. I'd suggest you jack your car up, spin the rear wheels and then use your brothers face to test the difference in coeffiecient of friction between it and the knackered shoe linings! :mgshoot:

it maybe only my car but my linings dislodged themselves, but they must have been knackered....

I find the cable stretches quickly and they require a adjustment often...

also if you pull it too often you bend the arm and the ratchet mechanism...oops.. I must get round to repairing that....

Or I shold just stop doing handbrake turns...!!!

Perhaps lol.

Something I've not done for a long time, without meaning to sound cheeky, how old are the above that are still doing it, out of curiosity, I just seemed to grow out of it, something that took a bit of practice to get right, ie to be able to do round corners etc not just yank it on in a car park etc, but not that difficult in all honesty and I got bored of it. Albeit they were good fun at the time. Maybe I'm juyst getting old, but I am enjoying getting used to Scoob and learning how to get it to slide around, very rear end biased with the centre diff set to open.

Back to the original question, I would imagine that they arent that good for any car, not just 850's lol.

Like Ross said, not much point in yanking the handbrake on in a car park, back when a handbrake was most fun ...MK2 Escorts etc, the handbrake was a driving tool, swedish fling, handbrake on and power the car around the bend ... watching guys ( and girls ) flat out pull it spin it like a Cadonas fun ride and sit and spin their wheels as they forgot to lift their foot off the accelerator is pointless!!

Goota tell you a funny story I heard about a bloke who had just bought an Alfa Sud. Showing off to his mates in the pub car park decided to do a h/b turn for the first time - absolute magic - thats when he discovered a) the h/b is on the front wheels, AND b) fence posts are tougher than Alfa bumpers and radiators!!. Tee hee. You can't legislate against stupid people.
