I recently changed the MAF sensor (thanks again Siamblue) as Volvo dealer had diagnosed this as the cause of the light coming on. It was recorded as 'upper level' something or other but he was reluctant to show me as I'd suggested they 'may' get the work to fix it. I went to a local specialist who reset the light but told me it would come back because it's probably due to a split in a small hose "down there, and difficult to reach" he said (pointing towards the rear of the top rad hose).
'Difficult to reach'! I can't even see one!
1- Is he right? has anyone else cured the light with repair to this hose?
2- If he is, where is it and how do I get to it and tips for doing the job please
3- If he's wrong any other suggestions?
The car runs OK and I have had it suggested that it's connected to contamination of the MAF with oil from the K&N filter. but the replacement MAF would indicate otherwise.

I'd say he was pointing to the vacuum elbow/hose on the end of the inlet manifold. Not sure the codes it would set if leaking, but it is a common failure point and like he said, difficult to get at. Most people take the opportunity to replace it along with a PCV overhaul as you have to take the manifold off and its a lot easier to replace with it off. You can do it with either very small hands or some long handle snipe nose pliers, but it might take you a few tries mainly because you can't see what you're doing.

When was your PCV system replaced? Is there a lot of smoke coming out of the dip-stick tube on idle? Might be worth a look and see if you need to do it.

#14 is the vacuum elbow on the manifold:
