Hi all, need your help.

Been doing some work on my 855R over the past few weeks, to get her back up to speck, it not gone to badly, but................

1, I think my rear main oil seal gone, replaced all sorts of bits, but i've stil got a drip from the bottem of the bellhouseing, it's an auto and I was wondering what sort of a job it is to do? and also what the going rate is at a garage/specialist?

2, powersteering is tight to start assisting when you change direction of the wheel, I thought it was the U.J's but I disconected them today, problem still there! Has anyone had any luck in flushing the fluid out? Is there any other repair for this or is it rack time?

I thank you for any help you may be able to give.

Hi mate,

I am the last person you want giving advice as I know very lil' about Volvos but as it seems your thread is yet to receive any attention from those in the know I'll give it my best shot:)

On point 1, the main oil seal, if you haven't replaced it yet then it is very likely this is the cause of your leak?! I am only able to base this on what you have said and the threads I have seen in the past here on VPCUK??? I think it is quite a job to do as well:confused:

With regards your power steering, I have no experience of any such fault on my current car (850 T5) and indeed have never experienced it on any of my former cars? I would suggest that it is almost certainly a mechanical thing, (judging by what you have said) like the steering rack, hindering the free flow of the whole steering system, other than an actual PAS problem. Having said that you mention flushing and replacing the fluid, again I cannot really help with guidance for this but I think that would be a good, cheap place to start the investigation...

Really sorry I can't be of more help, I'm no Ovlov expert and certainly not a mechanic/engineer:sorry:

Best o luck, hope the experts see this thread soon:B_steerin

Sorry didnt mean to avoid you.

Will seek out some useful threads on the Rear main

As for PAS. You can flush change the system - replace with new ATF or PAS fluid. Is it noisy? (usually indicates a worn pump)
