Has anyone seen any really low miles t5s or Rs cos I think they are rare now , Just think how rare they will be , iwas offered a t5 with 55k on from main dealer £6000 and that was xmas 2002. Im sure it would be worth buying one and wraping it up carefully who knows 10-20 years 15-20k. And a very special t5. Anyone know or own 1 of less than 100k?

1995 T-5R, 57k and climbing, the weekend trip to Darkest Kent should put another couple of hundred on her. Contrary to the impression of one VT5 member who suggested a little tampering had taken place I can confirm that the previous owner (there was only one) confirmed the mileage as genuine, the local Volvo dealerships computer system confirmed the mileage as genuine and the last documented Volvo service garage did the same. So Adam, your guess at the mileage was only 100 thousand miles out :D

Defo , well done matt :) , If I was you and I could afford a second 850r , I would buy another for everyday use and hid5 the 57k r in a heated well vented garage just turning over now and then and Useing it in bullet proof nice weather to keep the millage down and spanking clean( I know not the real world). I think yours must be very rare as most T5s have been well used now with over 100k but with years to go.
Did you buy 2nd hand or New?
If 2nd hand did you have to search hard?

Secondhand....literally. Spotted it in Autotrader but really wanted a yellow one. I still phoned up though just for details. I was told a chap was going up to Newcastle Under Lyme from Wales so it was essentially his. I called later just to ask and it transpired he never turned up. So the whole family duly trooped up there from Suffolk with first option. Saw it, fell for it and told the bloke we would have it. He was a decent chap and refused to take a deposit, put it into the local Volvo dealer had it serviced, put new rear discs and pads on, new exhaust tailpipe and cambelt. Two weeks later I drove her home 135 back down the M something or other eating cossies as we went past Donnington.
A few hundred quid for RICA and an AirCon Evaporator that needs replacing later the grin hasn't worn off yet.

My brother bought an 854 T5-R with a genuine 57k on the clock back in April 08 but the box wasn't right so as it was bought from a dealer it went back for a refund...

I wouldn't go on mileage alone.

Time and neglect can take a high toll on a vehicle.

I've seen vehicles with 65,000 on the clock rolling into the scrappers in a worse state than ones with 200K on them.

Hoses and seals perish over time. Oils break down. components left stood can tarnish the parts they contact.

From the very day a car is made it begins to rot away.

There is also the likelihood that a low mileage car has only done short trips and has been constantly heat cycled.

I'm not suggesting they are all bad. Just don't assume because the mileage is low that it MUST be in good condition.

i still believe cars should monitor total rpms rather than milage, or maybe aswell as, would be a far more accurate way of seeing how the cars been used.

Im with Julian on the miles thing but I think the 850 T5 and R day of rareness will come, but going on the build quality we might be waiting a long time!
Funily enough I bought an 854 T5 for the Mrs not long after I started this thread a base model 854 T5 s with 78k on the clock, she now has 113k runs like a dream although we speant a bit on her rubber parts had persished due to lack of miles in her early years.

However today she got rear ended for the second time not too badly but worse than last time the tow bar has gone into the bumper although the body is still straight and unmangled on the face of it, I havent looked at the boot floor yet so fingers crossed I would hate them to write it off as I guess she isnt worth much, but to us its a safe reliable family car that we would like to keep.

there appear to be very few coupes left with any less than 60K on them
