Probably not the place, but thought I'd ask anyhow.
Eldest son is thinkng of buying a V40 turbo deisel, as a second car, he's looking at spending around 4.5k. What year and mileage should he be looking at for this sort of money, and what problems can he expect to be looking for before a purchase is made.

I have just bought a 51 plate V40 1.9D 115bhp for Kath. I paid £3700 for it, SE spec, leather climate etc but its done 123k, Usual stuff really, louder than normal idle and excessive smoke, apart from that, pretty bomb proof mate.

Very useful info, gives us a good starting point at what to be looking for, when the eldest finally commits to it!
He has seen a couple on ebay, but these are ex lease cars, me personally, I would'nt go for one, what are your opinions about ex lease vehicles.
