Flew down to Luton from Glasgow yesterday morning and then several trains journey's later im in Hounslow and bought myself a cracking black C70 T5 GT with the ME7 engine, grey leather interior and manual transmission, she also has the "optional" extra ultra low suspension, its also got the Pro Logic sound system, sunroof, its an S reg with 74k on the clock and has FVSH (although it now needs its 80k service) with tons of paperwork aswell .. and the brakes have all been done in the last 6 months ... its even got the cool C70 mats still in it lol :)

It had the heater matrix done by Volvo last year and he has just put new tyre's on it aswell ....

It needs the 80k service now as its service light just came on last week so the seller says he would get it done or leave it for me and knock £300 off the asking price so im getting it book in next week, the ETM is going to need done eventually but its not bad at the moment but he did take some money off the asking price for that aswell which was great, on my checkover on it i did notice the top engine mount rubber has came away so thats gonna need renewed but that was the only fault i could pick up on it,

The sound system is just awesome ... listening to Frankie Goes To Hollywoods song "Relax" is just cracking, its like hearing the song for the 1st time all over again lol :) .... the system seems to highlight bits of music and then just attacks your ears with the "wall of sound" ....... fantastic :)

The 404 mile drive back home was excellent, there is no wind noise from the sunroof or door frames and the electric seats are great, sometimes i had to turn the stereo off just to appriciate how quite the car really is .... croozing at 80-90 is a pleasure ... and its does'nt drink as much petrol as i thought it would have which is a bonus, a full tank got me to my house with still some to spare :)

However you can tell its got huge tyre's as she tramlines very easily and although quick i found myself having to put the accelarator right to the floor to get it to go quick ...... is this normal ?????????? (on my 21 turbo you just blip the pedal and you're gone) ... compared to my 21 turbo it deliver's the power in a completly different way, the 21 is pretty brutal and its 13.2psi of boost kicking in at 2500rpm really does force you back in your seat along with its 200lb of torque @3000rpm you really have to wrestle that famous torque steer but with the Volvo im not getting a single hint of torque steer or forced back into the seat but it still shifts, but i really only know its shifting by looking at the speedo .... if you know what i mean ...... and you can tell you're driving a long distance cruiser when it comes to bends, but i did'nt buy it for its cornering ability so thats not an issue .... and i find that on pressing the brake for the 1st few inches nothing really happens but keep going and then they start to bite and do stop the car well after that point has been found .....

When the weather gets better im gonna be giving it a damn good waxing and the leather done all with Autoglyms finest's ....

What i do miss though is a boost gauge so im gonna be looking into getting one installed as i like to know whats going on in that department ...

When the deal was done the seller nearly had tears in his eye's as he really did not want to sell it but personal issue's where forcing him too .... he was the 2nd owner and had it since 2001.

I'll get picture's up shortly, but the girlfriend has took it to work already lol :)

Thanks to the forum and people that gave advice to me when i was thinking about buying the car ..... priceless ... many thanks ;)

Sounds excellent. You'll probably find that the throttle response will not be as immediate because you need a new pedal switch to go along with the ETM.

When she is right you'll get way more than 200ftlbs.

I should look to change the drop links and add a strut brace. It makes a huge difference and you can do both jobs for under 100 quid.

The sound system is the C70's party trick - it really does work well inside that shape. I only have 10 speakers and I know how good that is. The reason for it is the separate amp which is hidden away behind the boot lining and the good quality speakers (dynaudio).

top engine mount rubber has came away

You can get the uprated OEM one that will not split.

I am really glad she is what you wanted. Few bits and pieces and she'll be a black turbo-charged volvo missile!!

Im almost pretty sure she should be more responsive when i press that pedal so im planning on getting it booked into VT in the near future to get the ETM done and while im there get it on the rollers to check everything is as it should be.

Im going to be getting a stut brace for sure, and interesting about the drop links ..... never knew that, maybe change them aswell then :) ...

I have just changed mine (on a 60K mileage car) and you can tell the difference - the bushes in the old DL's are all floppy and in the new - very stiff and as the roll bar connects to the struts on both sides via the DL's the integrity of the bushes is important. With 81K I would say they are almost certainly gonna be floppy. Plus they are easy to replace. All you need is a 15mm and 16mm socket and sometimes an allen key. As I said the DL's are cheap too.

That looks proper - old and cool !

Didn't know the engine went that way though, thats interesting. Did you tune her up a bit then ?

My cousin used to have a terrible looking 440 turbo but with a MBC and turbo back exhaust [plus K+N] it was quite brisk !

Thanks mate,
Only thing iv done is put alloy boost pipe's on it .. dont laugh at the filter lolol looks tiny eh :)

I had a new engine from Renault put in it in 2002 so the engine has only done 30k now as the last owner turned the boost up and popped the liners so iv been reluctant to up the boost in any way so she is running standard boost, but she's well quick in standard form anyway tbh, but just recently she has had a new rear torsion beam, calipers, discs and pads all round, new rear shockers, both coolers replaced, but the front end needs doing now so now iv got the Volvo it gives me a chance to strip the front suspension and renew the lot, and i dont need to hurry to have her back on the road the next day, iv got a stockpile of new standard bits to go on her, but the biggy is the respray as the red has faded slightly and the lacuer is peeling, i could'nt get rid of it now as iv invested to much money and time in her, i reckon if it had not been for me it would have been scrapped long ago so i get a sort of satisfaction in thinking that i saved it lol :)

The Volvo looks really cool with alloys, its always nice to see a car looking good that nobody really thinks of, unlike your usual RS's etc, although they are still cool cars though.

Hope you enjoy it,

Iv'e had mine 3 years 2nd one and cant see passed them at all.

Get the strut brace 20 minute job, make sgood difference to front end.

Then get RICA at VT

I had my older model done recently and its Fab, torque builds up much quicker and you will feel the difference in the push in your seat

VT will make sure your C70 is running up to scratch.

Hope to see you soon at the next Scots meeting.

If your passin Cumbernauld anytime give me shout (PM) and we can compare

Thanks for the invite lads ;)

Been out and about in the car the last few days and im falling in love with it more each time i go out in it ... its just a fantastic car, so smooth and qiuet, and i think its one sexy looking car but i have always thought coupe's where anyway, im learning how to drive it now .... if you know what i mean .... im so used the way my 21 turbo drive's and boost's up that for the 1st few days in the C70 i was wondering why nothing was happening but over the last few days im getting to learn its way ... lol :) ... the turbo kicks in alot later than in my 21 turbo but when it does it does'nt seem to stop ... lol :) it just goes and goes but it definetly needs a strut brace when doing the country roads, but thats another one of its hidden talents, it may be a T5 but im finding myself just wanting to take it easy in it as its such an enjoyable car just croozing along the countryside, where as in my 21 turbo id be wanting to "nip on" all the time, i can see me having 21 turbo days and C70 days lol ...

Iv spent the last few days t-cutting and waxing it aswell, the last owner always made sure the service history and maintanence was kept up to date but it most definetly has not seen polish in a few years, it was a nightmare to get good, the Autoglym certainly had its work cut out, you could not even see in the car when you looked in it from the sunroof glass, i was getting yellow stuff on the polishing cloth's, but a t-cut and 3 waxes later she has finally came up, so its gone from being silvery black to a lovely deep clean black and now the rain just runs off it, and the muck that came from under the arches was disgusting, thank goodness they have plastic arch liners,

Im finding the fuel consumption to be ok tbh .... not any worse than a 21t

Anyway i'll stop babbling, here's some pic's as promised ....
sorry about quality, taken with a mobile phone.

Cheers Fraz13,

The chap i bought it from who was the 2nd owner said that when the 1st owner bought it he ticked the box to get it with the "ultra low suspension" option.

lots of people have been asking me if mine is lowered, (including the others at the volvo dealership i work at), and as far as i know it is not, yet it sits very low indeed. i know it has the sports chassis, but even so, it still looks lower than others i have seen, it looks like yours:

There seems to be a massive difference out there with loads of C70's... saw one the other day looked pretty standard (dont think its been modded) but there was hardly any gap inbetween the wheels and the arches.

Where as mine there is about a 2ft gap :( even with 40mm lowering springs its still too high! urghhhh.

Your car is looking good mate! :B_steerin
