View Full Version : How to install the power antenna switch

The instructions that come with the kit are comprehensive. I know that the instructions refer to the install for C70 and S70 cars with the power antenna. I have no idea if this works for the 854s?
The reason for this modification is to allow you to have the antenna down when the radio is switched on.

Click the bold italics for the pictures I took during my own install.

This is a very easy job. Depending on where you have space to fit the new switch will drive whether or not you need to remove the kick panel above the pedals.
If you do the panel removes with a single T20 torx bit (http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/images/antenna_how2/screw_t20_torx.JPG) - apologies for the low quality shot...

The panel slides towards the seat.

When I did this I actually found I didnt need to remove the panel at all - as I was putting the switch on the LHS of the steering wheel.

Here is the kit (http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/images/antenna_how2/box_part_no.jpg) that I bought from Volvo. It includes 3 cable ties, the loom, the switch and instructions. (http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/images/antenna_how2/Loom_switch.JPG)

Remove the radio by ejecting the 2 pull tabs either side of the radio fascia.
On the back of the radio (make sure you have the radio code before doing this) pull the middle cable out (http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/images/antenna_how2/remove_plug.JPG) as shown... (SC901 H/U)

Insert the new loom (http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/images/antenna_how2/new_loom_in_radio.JPg)(it only goes one way) into the back of the H/U and attach the main feed cable into the other end of the new loom.

On the dash, carefully remove the blanking plate (http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/images/antenna_how2/remove_blank.JPG)where you want the switch to go. Some have plugs from unused connectors on the back - push the one you dont want into the dash space.

Then feed the new loom up around the back of the centre dash. If you wanted to put the switch on the RHD side of the steering column - obviously then as I said, you'd need to get down underneath and feed it through.

Attach the new switch (http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/images/antenna_how2/new_switch.JPG) and push it into the slot in the dash.

There is lots of wire available to go either side so how you tidy it up (http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/images/antenna_how2/tidy_wire.JPG)is entirely up to you. I had loads left over.

Gently push all the looms for the radio back into place and slide the radio home.

If you need to, put the kick panel back in making sure you locate it at both edges (there is a knack to this which comes with practice but essentially you need to look to the white plastic hinges under the dash and locate the panel into them)

Turn the ignition on and enter the radio code. Job done (http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/images/antenna_how2/Finished2.JPG).

With the lights on you can see the antenna down switch illuminated (http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/images/antenna_how2/finished_3.JPG)

Stuart :slap: please take some time to re-read the thread and open the pictures.

I sit here asking myself WHY - surely he would have looked at the pictures? especially the one "Here is the kit"

For those still not getting it - the part number is on the end of the box.

Took about 20 mins but I did take a wee while with photos and found that undoing the kick panel was unnecessary, coz I put the switch to the LHS of the steering wheel.
